On this day in 1978 Egypt and Israel signed peace accords at Camp David. Menachem Begin and Anwar Sadat won the Nobel Peace Prize for being brave enough to see the advantages of taking a chance on each other. Both sides have keep their promises and today there are even tours from Israel to Egypt. Unfortunately, many people were against the treaty and both men became potential assasination targets. Despite warnings from various international intelligence agencies , Anwar Sadat was assasinated for his efforts to bring peace to a troubled region.
On this day in1873 , poor banking practices led to an economic situation called "the panic of 1873." The volune of money in the economy available for investment dried up , workers were laid off and busnesses failed. The famous quote about not learning from history seems to apply today.
On this date in 1759 General Wolf and the British beat General Montcalm and the french as they capture Quebec. (Sorry Celine Dion.)
