The legend says that when Captain James Cook and naturalist Sir Joseph Banks were exploring Australia and saw this strange animal, they asked one of the local Aborigines what its name was. The local replied "Kangurua", meaning "I don't understand you" and the two explorers mistakenly took these words for the name of the creature.
