You've probably heard that mosquito bites are dangerous? But you can't actually get bitten by a mosquito - they simply have no jaws to bite you with. Instead, they pierce the skin with their long proboscis and suck the blood up through their nasal tube. Mosquitoes typically feed on nectar and plant juices. But in some species, the female needs to obtain nutrients from the blood of a human or an animal before she can produce eggs.
